Thought Behind Story:-

A physically disabled person is generally considered an object of pity. He is considered incapable of doing anything useful. People keep reminding him of his disability through their behavior towards him. This gives the disabled person a deep mental pain. He feels alienated from society. A disabled person never wants others to pity him. He only wants that he should be treated as a normal human being.

शारीरिक रूप से अक्षम व्यक्ति को आमतौर पर दया का पात्र माना जाता है। उसे कुछ भी उपयोगी करने में असमर्थ माना जाता है। लोग उनके प्रति उनके व्यवहार के माध्यम से उन्हें उनकी विकलांगता की याद दिलाते रहते हैं। इससे विकलांग व्यक्ति को गहरी मानसिक पीड़ा होती है। वह समाज से अलग-थलग महसूस करता है। एक विकलांग व्यक्ति कभी नहीं चाहता कि दूसरे उस पर दया करें। वह केवल इतना चाहता है कि उसके साथ एक सामान्य इंसान की तरह व्यवहार किया जाए।

Recapitulation (Highlights):-

it is a short play that has only three scenes and three characters. The characters are Mr. Lamb, Derry, and Derry’s Mother. The first and the last scene are placed in Mr. Lamb’s Garden and the second Scene is placed at Derry’s House.

यह एक लघु नाटक है जिसमें केवल तीन दृश्य और तीन पात्र हैं। पात्र हैं मिस्टर लैम्ब, डेरी और डेरी की माँ। पहला और आखिरी सीन मिस्टर लैम्ब्स गार्डन में रखा गया है और दूसरा सीन डेरी हाउस में रखा गया है।

Mr. Lamb is an old man who had lost his one leg in a bomb explosion during war. Now he has a tin leg in its place. He lives alone in a house that has a garden also. People have spread many stories about him and no one ever comes to visit him. Kids call him Lamey-Lamb. Derry’s state is also not much different. He is a fourteen-year-old boy. His face is burnt from one side because a bottle of acid has fallen on it. People look at him with a sense of shock and fear. Everyone makes him conscious of his ugliness and it gives him much mental pain. He is sick of the world he is living in.

श्रीमान् लैम्ब एक बूढ़े व्यक्ति हैं जिन्होंने युद्ध के दौरान एक बम विस्फोट में अपना एक पैर खो दिया था। अब उसकी जगह टिन लेग है। वह उस घर में अकेला रहता है जिसमें एक बगीचा भी है। लोगों ने उसके बारे में कई कहानियां फैलाई हैं और कोई भी कभी उससे मिलने नहीं आता है। बच्चे उसे लेमी-लैम्ब कहते हैं। डेरी की स्थिति भी बहुत अलग नहीं है। वह चौदह साल का लड़का है। उनका चेहरा एक तरफ से जल गया है, क्योंकि उस पर तेजाब की बोतल गिर गई है। लोग उसे सदमा और भय की दृष्टि से देखते हैं। हर कोई उसे उसकी कुरूपता से अवगत कराता है और यह उसे बहुत मानसिक पीड़ा देता है। वह उस दुनिया से बीमार है जिसमें वह रह रहा है।

One day Derry finds his house empty and sneaks into his garden. Mr. Lamb was in his garden and both of them meet for the first time. Derry is not at first interested in talking with Mr. Lamb but after some time he starts liking conversation with him because he is a very withdrawn and defiant person. He tells Mr. Lamb how people become scared of his burnt face and they do not like to be with him.

एक दिन डेरी अपने घर को खाली पाता है और अपने बगीचे में घुस जाता है। मिस्टर लैम्ब अपने बगीचे में थे और वे दोनों पहली बार मिले। डैरी को शुरू में मिस्टर लैम्ब के साथ बात करने में कोई दिलचस्पी नहीं है, लेकिन कुछ समय बाद वह उससे बातचीत करना पसंद करने लगता है क्योंकि वह एक बहुत ही पीछे हटने वाला और उद्दंड व्यक्ति है। वह श्रीमान मेम्ने को बताता है कि कैसे लोग उसके जले हुए चेहरे से डर जाते हैं और वे उसके साथ रहना पसंद नहीं करते हैं।

Mr. Lamb tells him to face the fact that his face becomes ugly, but he should not make it an obstacle in his life, as all other parts of his body are sound and he can do well like others and maybe better than them. He tells Derry that children call him ‘Lamey-Lamb’ but he still allows them to have apples from his garden because there is nothing wrong with what they say.
Mr. Lamb proposes Derry stay with him in his house. Derry was so impressed by Mr. Lamb’s encouraging words that he decides to leave his home and start leaving with Mr. Lamb. Derry talks about this with his mother, but she doesn’t allow him. Without paying any other heed, he starts running for Mr. Lamb’s house.

श्रीमान लैम्ब ने उसे इस तथ्य का सामना करने के लिए कहा कि उसका चेहरा बदसूरत हो गया है, लेकिन उसे इसे अपने जीवन में बाधा नहीं बनाना चाहिए, क्योंकि उसके शरीर के अन्य सभी भाग स्वस्थ हैं और वह दूसरों की तरह अच्छा कर सकता है और शायद उनसे बेहतर। वह डेरी से कहता है कि बच्चे उसे ‘लैमी-लैम्ब’ कहते हैं, लेकिन वह फिर भी उन्हें अपने बगीचे से सेब लेने देता है क्योंकि वे जो कहते हैं उसमें कुछ भी गलत नहीं है।
श्रीमान लैम्ब ने डेरी को उसके साथ उसके घर में रहने का प्रस्ताव दिया। डैरी मिस्टर लैम्ब के उत्साहजनक शब्दों से इतने प्रभावित हुए कि उन्होंने अपना घर छोड़ने और मिस्टर लैम्ब के साथ जाने का फैसला किया। डैरी इस बारे में अपनी माँ से बात करता है, लेकिन वह उसे इसकी अनुमति नहीं देती। बिना कोई ध्यान दिए, वह मिस्टर लैम्ब के घर की ओर दौड़ना शुरू कर देता है।

In the meantime Mr. Lamb climbs a ladder to collect apples from the trees, unfortunately his ladder falls down and Mr. Lamb lies dead on the grass. When Derry enters Mr. Lamb’s house, he tries to move Mr. Lamb, but Mr. Lamb does not move as he is dead. This makes Derry weep. It is Mr. Lamb who helps Derry in attaining positive views towards life.

इस बीच मिस्टर लैम्ब पेड़ों से सेब लेने के लिए एक सीढ़ी पर चढ़ते हैं, दुर्भाग्य से उनकी सीढ़ी नीचे गिर जाती है और मिस्टर लैम्ब घास पर मृत पड़े रहते हैं। जब डेरी मिस्टर लैम्ब के घर में प्रवेश करता है, तो वह मिस्टर लैम्ब को हिलाने की कोशिश करता है, लेकिन मिस्टर लैम्ब नहीं हिलता क्योंकि वह मर चुका है। इससे डेरी रोने लगता है। यह श्रीमान लैम्ब हैं जो जीवन के प्रति सकारात्मक दृष्टिकोण प्राप्त करने में डेरी की मदद करते हैं।
