Poem 10, A Slumber Did My Spirit Seal Seal

Stanza- 1
A slumber did my spirit seal
I had no human fears.
She seemed a thing that could not feel
The touch of earthly years.
Explanation: In the stanza, the poet has expressed his grief over the death of a loved one. He says that he had no usual human fears now as death is the ultimate fear for human beings. When a person is alive, then he has many apprehensions and many fears like disease, famine etc. But death makes the end of all these fears because earthly years or usual fears seem to have no effect on his beloved. She has passed away peacefully leaving everything behind.
व्याख्याः छंद में कवि ने अपने किसी प्रियजन की मृत्यु पर अपना दुख व्यक्त किया है। वह कहते हैं कि अब उन्हें कोई सामान्य मानवीय भय नहीं था क्योंकि मृत्यु मनुष्य के लिए अंतिम भय है। जब कोई व्यक्ति जीवित होता है, तो उसे कई आशंकाएँ और कई भय जैसे बीमारी, अकाल आदि होते हैं, लेकिन मृत्यु इन सभी भयों का अंत कर देती है क्योंकि सांसारिक वर्षों या सामान्य भय का उसके प्रिय पर कोई प्रभाव नहीं पड़ता है। वह सब कुछ छोड़कर शांति से विदा हो गई।
Stanza- 2
No motion has she now, no force
She neither hears nor sees
Rolled round in earth’s diurnal course
With rocks and stones and trees.
Explanation: In this stanza, the poet mentions that there is no motion in the body of his beloved as death has overcome her. Also, death has deprived her of her strength. She is unable to see and unable to hear. All her senses are dead now. She has adjusted herself with the routine activity of earth now. As the earth completes its routine of day and night with the rocks, stones and trees; so does the beloved of the poet now. She has become a part of the nature. The poet concludes with her afterlife.
व्याख्या: इस छंद में कवि उल्लेख करता है कि उसकी प्रेमिका के शरीर में कोई गति नहीं है क्योंकि मृत्यु ने उस पर विजय प्राप्त कर ली है। साथ ही, मौत ने उसे उसकी ताकत से वंचित कर दिया है। वह देख और सुन नहीं पा रही है। अब उसकी सारी इंद्रियां मर चुकी हैं। उसने अब पृथ्वी की नियमित गतिविधि के साथ खुद को समायोजित कर लिया है। जैसे पृथ्वी चट्टानों, पत्थरों और वृक्षों के साथ दिन और रात की अपनी दिनचर्या पूरी करती है; तो अब कवि का प्रिय करता है। वह प्रकृति का अंग बन गई है। कवि उसके बाद के जीवन के साथ समाप्त होता है।
